Thanks to the Internet, nothing ever dies or goes away. It may get lost in the either, but from time to time, something gets fished out.
Oddly enough while looking up some old things in Google, I stumbled upon this newspaper article by John Emms. But, not just any newspaper article… This piece is about a band I played with back in 2001 called Stone’s Throw and it appeared in the Timmins Daily Press the day before we had the pleasure of opening for April Wine at Amigos in Timmins, ON.
Stone’s Throw was a band that started out during my high school days with drummer Paul Duchesne and singer Chris Rivet; Barry and Dave Promane joined the fold on bass and guitar respectively in 2000 when I met them at Carleton University. Thanks to Barry’s connections in the Northern Ontario bar scene, this band gave me my first real taste of life on the road with a band. They were also some of the best times I’ve had as a musician.
You can click on the photo to read the piece, which appeared in the Thursday, November 22, 2001 edition of newspaper.
Nathan DaSilva and I performed our first gig as The Nimoy Brothers tonight at the Boston Pizza in Orleans. All in all, the first gig was a sucess!
We performed a lot of material that we normally do with The Shatners, as well as three or four new songs that we performed for the first time tonight (no rehearsals on those. Bah, who needs rehearsals anyway?) There was also a great crowd in the bar area where we played.
Big thanks to Leslie and the rest of the staff at the BP in Orleans for their hospitality and the invitation to perform!
PS Nathan’s band Slyde is doing another run of gigs in Ontario, Quebec and Eastern Canada at the end of August. Visit their MySpace page for dates and do check ‘em out if you can!
